ACTION ITEMS Before we get started on the next nine steps, you'll
need to get your tools together:
Calendar: Get a nice, big calendar
with plenty of room to write in each date. I have a slight
preference for paper calendars since it's easy to get
sucked into email and web surfing if you use a computer-based
calendar.
Goals Folder: Get a manila folder and
label it Goals. Put it on your desk, in your file cabinet,
or somewhere where you'll remember where it is. This is
where you'll keep the goals that you write down so you'll
always know where to find them.
Address Book: I strongly prefer using
Excel for this since it's easy to edit and customize,
but a physical paper book will do as well. You don't need
to fill it in yet, just set it up. Also, unless your current
address book is thorough and up-to-date, I recommend starting
a new one.
Clothes: No more frumpy clothes! Every
day, dress like you would dress if you were going to a
casual event at your high school reunion. It can be jeans
and a t-shirt if it's a fitted, attractive shirt, but
no sweats and no baggy shirts. Spend some time going through
your closet and picking out clothes that are comfortable
but make you feel good about yourself.
Shoes: I'm a big believer in FlyLady's
recommendation (see Recommended
Reading) that you wear lace-up shoes every day. You'll
notice a distinct difference in how prepared you feel
to handle the day when you always have shoes on.
Makeup: I strongly recommend that you
wear at least some lip gloss every day -- whatever you
would wear if you went to an office. It's important to
put forth a little bit of extra effort into your appearance
each day just like you would if you had a job. When you
pass by yourself in the mirror you'll see someone who
looks motivated and in control, not fatigued and sloppy.
